The past few evenings right before nightfall, I have heard an unfamiliar chirp outside the house. I looked out the windows, but was not able to see anything as the bushes along the side of the house are quite dense. Tonight Toby the cat was visiting, and clued me into where the call was coming from. He was immediately drawn to the windows when he heard the call. It seemed very clear that Toby knew the call was from a bird that he could potentially catch vs. the many other birds around. I went outside to see if I could see anything, and Toby followed me out the door (not my intention.) However, he immediately clued me into where the bird was which happened to be on the ground right next to the house. I grabbed the cat and put him back in the house away from the bird and picked up the camera. This age is such a perfect time to photograph birds because they don't fly away. I realized that he wasn't in a safe place so guided him toward the bushes. He didn't quite go the direction I was aiming for, but eventually we ended up near his mom who turned out to be a mockingbird. She was chirping away a bit upset that I was so close. Then the little one found it's way into safe cover for the night.
