A friend wrote about a food experience this week that made me think. He had noticed recently that his desire was to eat less meat. When he went to the doctor for an annual exam, the results from his bloodwork showed that his iron count was up. In fact, his body was telling him that he didn't need to eat as much meat. The lesson to be learned here is pay attention to your body signals. It will tell you what it needs.
His story made me think about how I came to stop eating read meat. Up until I was in my early twenties I ate red meat, mostly because of my upbringing. When I was attending college I began to notice how after I ate red meat I felt like there was a huge lump or rock in my stomach that wouldn't move. It was heavy energy and it didn't give me a positive feeling. This is likely due to the fact that an animal was killed, providing bad karma. I stopped eating red meat because of the way it made me feel when I transferred that energy into my body. Eventually, I stopped eating chicken and fish as well and became a full vegatarian. I listened to what my body was telling me, that these foods were not the best things that I should be putting into my body.
The big question that people always have is "how do you get your protein?" I do make a conscious effort to include protein in my diet. For example, I add protein powder to my fresh fruit juice in the mornings, peanut butter to my toast, and usually some sort of legumes or tofu dish with rice for lunch. I usually have a light dinner in the early evening such as steamed vegetables or a salad and maybe a protein bar or some cheese later in the evening.
This past week, my stomach has been quite "sensitive" for some reason. I have noticed how what my body is asking for is more simple light pure foods, for example more fresh juices than usual. I have also been reading a book about how the universe is preparing us to evolve our light bodies in connection to the greater source. I can't help but think about this connection. The most simple and pure foods we can eat - fruits and vegetables come from the light energy created by the sun. The greater variety of these foods that we eat, the more our bodies radiate with this light energy. What a beautiful evolution!
