Volunteering to Cleanup the SF Bay from the Oil Spill

Volunteers are required to attend a training course first.  Here are the details about the training and volunteer needs. 

Flyby

I saw a fiery-billed aracari today fly into one of the trees outside the kitchen window.  Just as I brought the binoculars, it was off.  It looks like a toucan but smaller, but it has red on its beak and chest.  I recognized it from a print that was hanging in the lodge my friend and I stayed at when we visited Tortuguero National Park.  I searched online and found a good photo of one at http://www.tropicalexpeditions.com/ in their photo safari section.  The type in this image (Keel-billed toucan) is relatively common and does have a speck of red at the bottom of the yellow on his chest.

Turkey Defense

This male turkey on the left didn't want me to get close to his female friends.  As I was trying to photograph them cuddled together he would step in between to block me.  As I walked around he continued to place himself in between me and the other turkeys.  It was quite funny to watch him defend his territory.  He was very persistent. 

The Truth About Roosters

A large percentage of the families in Ciudad Colon have hens and roosters.  Many of my North American friends who have not lived near farm animals before have noticed that the roosters don't just cock-a-doodle-doo at sunrise.  They talk at any time, even in the middle of the night.
